Your Quick Guide to Life in Mimico

04.26.2021

In recent years, Mimico has gone from an up-and-coming community to one of the trendiest enclaves in the GTA. From its beautiful waterfront and gorgeous green spaces to its trendy eateries and fabulous mix of homes, this Etobicoke gem is in high demand. Are you thinking of moving to the neighbourhood?

If you’re considering a move to Mimico, here’s what you should know…

Local Amenities

Like any area on the rise, Mimico has seen an influx of trendy local businesses in recent years—including some incredible places to grab a bite. Tich is a prime example. This lively eatery serves up creative Indian cuisine, providing a fresh take on traditional flavours. Tita’s Mexican Food is another local favourite. This beloved local restaurant is the ideal spot for standards like huevos rancheros and enchiladas with mole.

When you’re looking for a velvety latte or decadent cookie, check out Birds and Beans. Here you’ll find eco-friendly and organic options that are a cut above what’s available in the grocery store. Speaking of baked goods, SanRemo Bakery is a long-time Italian staple. It’s been around since 1969 for good reason, and it’s well worth a visit.

Along with these local hotspots, Mimico residents enjoy day-to-day conveniences right outside their doorsteps. Whether you need groceries, beer, or hardware, it’s easily accessible along Lake Shore Boulevard.

Community Events

Mimico is a wonderful neighbourhood in any season, but it’s an especially great place to be in the springtime. Part of the reason for that is the annual Tulip Festival, which features food, live music, and (best of all) four-foot-tall painted tulips. If you’re more of a lover of the arts than an outdoor enthusiast, you’ll want to check out Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival. It’s a great place to see some independent cinema.

Being close to other popular neighbourhoods means there are plenty of lively events just a short jaunt away. One of the best is Taste of the Kingsway, a massive celebration of cuisines from around the world.

Recreation & Parks

Few communities balance vibrant urban living and natural beauty the way that Mimico does. Boasting charming green spaces and trails, the area is ideal for those who love the great outdoors. One of its must-visits is Mimico Waterfront Park, which features a 1.1-kilometre stretch along the shoreline (perfect for walkers and cyclists). Boardwalks, cobblestone beaches, and a sheltered gazebo add to its charm.

Amos Waites Park is another beloved outdoor space. This 1.4-hectare area is known for its pool, playground, paths, and beaches. That said, if sports is your thing, you may want to check out the Mimico Tennis Club or Lakeshore Lawn Bowling Club instead.

Mimico Real Estate

One of the reasons Mimico has become so popular is its stunning waterfront views—and there’s a new crop of modern condos that take full advantage of them. If glittering glass towers and contemporary amenities sound like heaven to you, you’ll find plenty of options in the area.

For those who need more space to settle down, Mimico offers a mix of single-family homes. Charming houses from the pre and post-war periods abound, from bungalows to Tudor jewels. You may even find the odd diamond in the rough at an affordable price! Increasingly, custom builds on expansive lots are popping up, too.
