Very Peri: How to Use the 2022 Pantone Colour of the Year in Your Home Decor

01.31.2022

Pantone recently announced the 2022 Colour of the Year as ‘Veri Peri.’ It’s a cheerful and pretty shade of periwinkle blue/purple, and just what we need to kickstart our creative process and get inspired about colour in home decor this year.

However, we’re always wary about jumping on trends. The Pantone Colour of the Year changes each year, so it’s probably not a great idea to commit fully to one colour just because it’s on-trend for the season.

Instead, incorporate the colour in a subtle, tasteful way to ensure it outlasts the annual trend.

Here are a few ideas to get started…

Consider Texture

While on its own, Veri Peri might look pretty, bright, and bombastic, you can play it up or down by paying attention to texture. For example, a velvet cushion in Veri Peri would look absolutely luxurious on a couch with contrasting upholstery and colour.

Gauzy Veri Peri curtains will also add a sense of dreaminess to a room without being too overwhelmingly bright and noticeable.

If you’re ready to commit to painting with a Veri Peri palette, consider adding some texture to the paint by choosing a colour that is matte or textured with speckles to make it pop a little more.

Small Additions

If you’d just like a few small bursts of Veri Peri in your home, you’re in luck. Although the colour is very bright, it matches nicely with both cool and warm undertones, meaning you can add it to rooms that feature neutrals like grey and silver, as well as rooms with brown and gold and it will still look good.

There’s an abundance of Veri Peri decor items hitting the shelves right now, but some of our favourites include painted terra-cotta planters, decorative bowls, blown glass sculptures, geometric candle holders, area rugs, throws, pillows, and more. The options are really endless, and Veri Peri accents can work in almost every room of the home.

Functional Design

Home decor is comprehensive. It’s the design of your space and your entire life, really. This doesn’t make home decor limited to things like framed pictures and throw cushions. Every aspect of your home can be beautiful.

The good thing about incorporating a more “trendy” design into your functional home items is that many of these items are “wear items” that need to be replaced every few years. For example, why not get some Veri Peri bed sheets or duvet covers? A Veri Peri bathmat or some beautiful waffle-knit Veri Peri towels could bring a spa-like essence to your bathroom, while Veri Peri dishtowels, pot holders, or oven mitts can bring a sense of whimsy to your kitchen chores.

Bigger Commitments

The past few years have seen a resurgence of white walls. And, we get it. White walls are crisp, clean, and the perfect blank canvas for creating a stunning room. In many cases, when we stage a home, we like to start with beautiful white walls.

However, this doesn’t mean that today’s design is boring. Sure, neutrals are nice, but a pop of colour in a major focal point of the room is also a lot of fun. A stunning midcentury modern style Veri Peri couch can look confident and chic, while an accent wall in Veri Peri can look modern and tasteful when done right.

We’re also seeing an uptake in popularity with colourful kitchen cabinets. Think, bright, bold cabinets with contrasting or metallic accents. When it works, it really works!

However, we would caution people about incorporating a colour just because Pantone says so. You have to really love the colour if you want to incorporate it into a major design element of your home.
