Etobicoke on the Waterfront: Our Favourite Neighbourhoods

08.02.2024

A waterfront lifestyle represents the pinnacle of success for many people. Imagine stepping outside, only to be greeted by the sights and sounds of the waves of Lake Ontario. You can walk or rollerblade for hours along the Martin Goodman Trail or relax under a shade tree to lose yourself in the view.

It’s easy to see why waterfront properties are so highly sought after and valuable. While real estate prices in Toronto have soared out of reach for many people, Etobicoke remains relatively accessible. You’ll find an array of new and existing condos ranging from entry-level to decadent and luxurious. There are also plenty of detached homes suitable for family living, as well as a selection of townhouses to balance out a broad housing mix.

With the waterfront in one direction and the shops, services and restaurants of Bloor Street West in the other, Etobicoke offers a dream lifestyle – at a cost that may be more affordable than you think. Today, let’s talk about our favourite waterfront communities of Etobicoke.

Mimico

Located to the west of Bloor West Village, Mimico is often referred to as the gateway to Toronto’s waterfront neighbourhoods. Minutes away from the shores of Lake Ontario and Whimbrel Point, it’s also one of the most scenic neighbourhoods in the city.

Downtown Toronto is easily accessible, either by the Gardiner Expressway or the Go Train. Mimico’s location makes commuting in and out of Toronto highly convenient, but you’ll find every amenity you need practically in your own backyard.

The shopping districts along Lake Shore Boulevard and Royal York Road easily rival those of downtown but with more parking available and fewer traffic jams. There is also a wide selection of locally owned restaurants where you can enjoy a meal out with friends and family.

The housing options in Mimico are wide and varied, ranging from low-rise apartments to high-end condos, townhouses, and charming older detached homes. A stroll around the neighbourhood makes it easy to see why it is quickly becoming popular with young professionals, growing families, and downsizers alike.

Port Credit

The lively and scenic Port Credit neighbourhood is practically synonymous with the waterfront. No wonder it has long been desired by Toronto residents and newcomers to the city. A safe and vibrant community makes the area especially attractive to families with small children, and close proximity to beautiful parks and a public library only cements its family-friendly reputation.

This highly walkable neighbourhood weaves in and out of fascinating architecture, old and new, and is close to publicly owned parks and trails. There are plenty of townhouses and condos, along with a scattering of heritage homes in classic styles. Some of the older bungalows have been replaced by custom homes, but many still stand as ideal options for entry-level buyers in the area.

Long Branch

Long Branch is an established neighbourhood that offers the best of everything! Here, you’ll discover gorgeous waterfront views, family-friendly parks, and too many amenities to name! There’s a public library and a wide variety of unique shops and restaurants offering any cuisine imaginable.

Marie Curtis Park is a fantastic place where children can play and cool off in the wading pool after jumping and running on the playground. There’s also a sandy beach and shaded picnic areas throughout, making this the perfect spot for a family afternoon.

Colonel Samuel Smith Park provides breathtaking waterfront views as well as an epic skating trail in the winter. No matter what the season, there’s something fun and exciting to experience in Long Branch!

The housing stock consists of numerous older homes in the Tudor and Edwardian styles. Many of these have been fully renovated and rejuvenated. You’ll also find prestigious waterfront homes, along with two-storey residences, townhouses, and smaller brick bungalows.
